Asking the fleet what it is doing…

Ground truth

Quests.

The radios count phones. A quest counts people: a short scripted walk a volunteer runs at a node (scan a card, wait, walk to the next one) so that the measurement has a known answer to be checked against, the way a scale is checked with a known weight. These are the ones that exist.

Published quests, with their points, length and step count
Quest Steps About Points
Study session Do nothing, on purpose, and get credit for it. Tell us roughly how long you are staying, then go back to pretending to read. 3 240 min 50
Fingerprint Stand perfectly still for thirty seconds, like a Victorian having their portrait taken. The radio needs a moment to get a good look at you. 3 1 min 10
Treasure hunt 10 grey boxes are hiding in plain sight around the library. Find them all and you will have walked the single most useful lap anybody can walk in here. 22 15 min 120
Counting Wander the library and count the humans. You are the ground truth; the radio is the one being tested. 3 8 min 60
Survey loop One fixed lap of both reading rooms, ending where it began. Dull by design โ€” the same lap walked on four different days is worth more than four different laps. 42 14 min 120
Survey loop (tracked) The survey lap with the handset tracking its own path. Operator take: it holds the camera and the battery, and it is the only run that yields a positioning error rather than a position. 42 14 min 120

A quest is run in the study app, which is in closed testing at the faculty. Open one to see what it asks and which nodes are offering it, or see what the fleet is doing right now.
