Transmit power control (TPC) is a mechanism by which a wireless transmitter dynamically adjusts its output power level based on channel state information, link quality estimates, or predicted packet delivery outcomes, rather than transmitting at a fixed maximum power. In the context of CSI-based sensing and 802.11 systems, TPC matters because accurate channel models — such as those built from per-subcarrier CSI measurements — enable informed, fine-grained power adjustments that can maintain reliable packet delivery while reducing interference and energy consumption. Key variants include open-loop TPC, where power is set based on a predicted channel without feedback, and closed-loop TPC, where explicit feedback from the receiver guides iterative power adaptation across frames or subcarriers.
